On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, Cagliari Calcio participated in a meeting on the subject hosted by the Microcitemico Hospital, which involved (with their families) insulin-dependent children.
The club took part in the initiative with the coach of the Primavera team, Fabio Pisacane, his deputy Matteo Battilana and a large delegation of players, who indulged in photos, autographs and the handing out of some red-blue-coloured gifts for the youngsters.
Present was Cagliari’s medical director, Dr Marco Scorcu, who concretely illustrated in his speech how diabetes is perfectly compatible with sporting activity, even competitive and at the highest level, giving some examples from the world of sport; together with him Jacopo Secci, insulin-dependent and member of the athletic trainers’ staff of the first team, and Mattia Belfiori, head of the Base Activity of Cagliari Calcio.
The meeting, organised with the fundamental contribution of the Association of Children with Diabetes (ABCD), was opened and coordinated by Dr. Carlo Ripoli, head of the Paediatric Diabetology Department at the ‘Antonio Cao’ Microcitemical Hospital in Cagliari, followed by a presentation on stem cell studies by Dr. Rossella Ricciardi.
